POSITION:                                         Tutorial Coordinator

 

CLASSIFICATION:                           Administrative;

                                                                           Exempt; Full-Time (10 month)

 

DEPARTMENT:                                Academic Skills Center

 

REPORTS TO:                                   Associate Vice President for Student Success and Retention

 

JOB FUNCTION: Responsible for full-operation and management of extensive on-going tutorial program.

 

 

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS: 

 

1.     Recruit and select tutors each semester via faculty/tutorial coordinator recommendations and interview.

2.     Develop and facilitate tutor training and verify/maintain database to meet the College Reading and Learning Association’s requirements for certification.

3.     Supervise and evaluate student tutors during their tenure.

4.     Assess tutee needs to determine the appropriate tutorial assistance and confer with other professionals such as athletic coaches, counselors, advisors, faculty and other administrators as needed.

5.     Coordinate tutor/tutee match and schedule/facilitate initial tutorial meetings between tutor and tutees.

6.     Maintain a file on each tutee and monitor their progress throughout the semester by meeting with tutors to discuss tutee’s progress and to suggest possible academic referrals.

7.     Verify and approve tutor payroll documentation and approve time entries via WebAdvisor.

8.     Outreach to at-risk student populations (Act 101/APP, etc.) to advise them of their academic position and offer tutoring.

9.     Project tutoring needs to coordinate ensuing semester(s) and review the tutorial budget to make financial requests when necessary.

10.  Develop and maintain excel spreadsheets and databases for the Academic Skills Center to collect, summarize and prepare semester-end reports, including but not limited to statistics on Achievement Plus and College Entry students.

11.  Assists in objectives for the annual and long-range implementation plans.

12.  Participate in the supervision and evaluation of the performance of the Academic Skills Center Office Coordinator.

13.  Hire, supervise and evaluate the Academic Skills Center student aides.

14.  Consult with the Learning Disabilities Coordinator and Disability Services Coordinator on the best approach for peer-based academic assistance for students with disabilities.

15.  Serve, as needed, as test proctor for students requiring extended and/ or alternative testing.

16.  Assist in the day-to-day management of the Academic Skills Center.

17.  Monitor and assist International student activities and report to Associate VP for Student Success and Retention as needed.

18.  Assist in securing tutors for the Achievement Plus/ College Entry Summer Program.

19.  Participate in the College Open House programs, Freshman Orientation Programs, Transfer Orientation Programs, and the Achievement Plus Summer and Fall Orientation activities.

20.  Attends Achievement Plus staff meetings.

 

NON-ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS :

 

1.     Assume other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.

2.     Facilitate Achievement Plus personal development groups and /or learning strategy workshops as needed.

3.     Attend Achievement Plus advisory board meetings.

4.     Seek professional development opportunities through workshop and/or conference participation.

5.     Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

 

REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Master’s Degree in education or related field preferred. Bachelor’s Degree with experience managing and coordinating large groups and a proven record of accomplishment will be considered.  Ability to work with diverse populations. Proficient in Excel and Database Management Systems. Well-developed interpersonal skills.  Effective written and oral communication skills.  Excellent organizational and managerial skills.  Ability to motivate, direct, and guide individuals. Ability to work in a team setting.

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS: Typical office working conditions.  Finger dexterity, ability to sit for long periods of time.
