POSITION:                            Director of Multicultural and International

Student Programs

 

DEPARTMENT:                    Multicultural Affairs

 

CLASSIFICATION:               Administrative, Exempt, 12 month

 

POSITION REPORTS TO:  Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students

 

JOB FUNCTION:  The Director addresses the needs of underrepresented and international students, implements engaging developmental, social and educational programming experience in the co-curriculum.

 

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS: 

 

1.      Provide support services for underrepresented and international students on campus, including non- academic advisement, promoting academic success, integration into the academic and social environment of the College and in the local community.

2.      Develop and oversee social programming that addresses the needs and interests of a culturally diverse population.

3.      Develop and facilitate diversity and multicultural workshops for students and employees.

4.      Responsible for serving as a role model for students in an institution operated in the Catholic tradition.

5.      Responsible for the development of a community that promotes caring, support, challenges and responsibility that is consistent with the mission of the College, educational tradition of the Congregation of Holy Cross and its Catholic identity.

6.      Develop and implement programs to facilitate new underrepresented and international students to the campus community and college experience.

7.      To plan and implement with other student affairs staff, programs for incoming students and families during summer advisement and new student orientation in August and January.

8.      Develop resource materials for CORE 090- the First Year Experience Seminar on acculturating underrepresented and international students to the campus.

9.      Serve as the advisor to the Multicultural International Club.

10.  Develop methods for assessment of underrepresented and international student experience in an effective, systematic and ongoing method sharing information with appropriate constituencies of the College.

11.  Participate in on campus admissions events, campus visitation days, accepted student days and open houses.

12.  To collaborate with the McGowan Hispanic Outreach program.

13.  Serve as a contributing member on college committees, including but not limited to serving on the Care Team, Student Affairs Team, campus life area meetings (Dean of Students, Residence Life, Campus Activities and Multicultural and International Student Programs) and other committees as assigned.

14.  Serve as a liaison with community groups, including but not limited to The Northeast Pennsylvania Diversity Consortium.

15.  Promote and encourage employees and staff to participate in the The Northeast Pennsylvania Diversity Consortium professional development programs.

16.  Serve on the student affairs professional on-call rotation as assigned by the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students.

17.  To work cooperatively in the management of the Campus Activities Suite with the Campus Activities staff regarding office coverage, vacations, etc.

18.  To complete SEVIS documentation for current international students for practical training, academic progress and travel.

19.  Other responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students.

 

NON ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:

 

1.      To represent the College with local organizations as assigned.

2.      To be a visible and active member of the King’s College community.

3.      To work with the Director of Grants on funding to support services and programs.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.      Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree strongly preferred.  Relevant work experience.

2.      Experience and flexibility working as a member of a team with faculty, student affairs professionals, academic staff, and students. Demonstrated skills as a collaborator with individuals and groups.

3.      Evening and weekend work, as required.

4.      Enthusiasm for providing an accessible environment for students.

5.      Excellent written and oral communication skills.

6.      Ability to operate a motor vehicle with a good driving record and be approved by the College’s insurance carrier and Human Resources Department.

7.      Obtain appropriate clearances as determined by Human Resources on background checks including but not limited to Pennsylvania Criminal check, Federal and Commonwealth Child Abuse and FBI.
