Learning Disability Coordinator

JOB FUNCTION:
Provides direct assistance and professional tutorial assistance to
learning disabled students in the First Year Academic Studies Program
ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:

Confers with the Disability Services Coordinator and the Director of
Admissions in formulating admissions decisions for the First Year Academic
Studies Program
-
Plans and implements the Orientation Session for students in the First Year
Academic Studies Program (FASP)
-
Creates course schedules for students in the FASP during freshman summer
advisement
-
Serves as academic advisor to students in FAS program
-
Completes an initial needs assessment for students in the FAS program
-
Consults on a regular basis with faculty teaching “fourth hour” sessions
-
Consults with parents of FAS students throughout the first year
-
Meets with FAS students to monitor academic progress, make specific
academic recommendations (i.e.,
course tutoring), implement accommodations, and teach learning strategies.
Meetings will be three times a week
through the fall semester; one to two times in the spring semester

Coordinates services and meets regularly with FAS students enrolled in the
summer College Entry Program

Plans and coordinates accommodations (i.e., tape-recorders, note-takers,
alternative format text ) for FAS students

Coordinates with faculty the testing accommodations (i.e., untimed,
computer-assisted, and other appropriate accommodations) for FAS students
-
Acts as a resource to faculty in implementing accommodations for FAS
students
-
Trains tutors working with learning disabled students
-
Develops programming with Disability Services Coordinator for faculty
training
-
Teaches education courses in exceptional children in the Education Program
(3 credits)

Serves, as needed, as test proctor and facilitator for students require
extended and/or alternative testing
-
Coordinates the reproduction of alternative format text for students in
FASP.

Assists in the day-to-day management of the Academic Skills
Center.
NON-ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS
1.
Represents the FAS program at Open House Programs,
College Fairs, and professional organizations.
2.
Develops new techniques/programs to meet the needs of
FASP.
3.
Provides information on issues of learning disabilities
to professional staff
4.
Performs other related duties as assigned
REQUIRE SKILLS, EXPERIENCE,
AND TRAINING
A master’s degree in Education with a certificate in
Special Education and a minimum of three years teaching experience. Demonstrated
knowledge of the current theory and practice in the field of learning
disabilities. Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work with
diverse populations. Demonstrated administrative skills.
