TITLE:                                    Financial Aid Specialist

 

GRADE:                                 27

 

DEPARTMENT:                  Financial Aid

 

REPORTS TO:                      Director of Financial Aid

 

JOB FUNCTION:                Provide financial aid counseling to students and parents. Provide administrative assistance to professional staff.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

1.       Initial point of contact in the Financial Aid Office.

2.       Responsible for providing basic counseling to students and families.

3.       Answers and responds to incoming phone calls and walk in’s.

4.       Monitors and replies to financial aid email correspondence.

5.       Manages student eligibility for Federal Work Study and facilitates hiring and assignments to job positions.

6.       Coordinates work study payroll with Business Office.

7.       Track and maintains student work study earnings.

8.       Addresses work study requests campus wide.

9.       Prepares reports for PHEAA on and off campus work study program.

10.   Monitors Federal Work Study expenditures, including Community Work study expenditures to assure the institution is meeting the federal requirement.

11.   Logging documentation in Colleague tracking system for incoming and continuing students.

 

NON ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:

 

Provides administrative and clerical support to Professional staff as needed.  Assists with office mailings.

Maintains scholarship database on web site.  Maintains forms on web site.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

 

1.       Customer service experience in Financial Aid, Admissions or related office preferred.

2.       Familiarity with Enrollment Management cycle and Financial Aid application process.

3.       Excellent oral and written communication with the ability to liaise with internal staff.

4.       Ability to be flexible, collaborative and to adjust in a rapidly changing environment.

5.       Must maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism with all aspect of the job duties.

6.       Proficiency in Windows operating environment along with Microsoft Office Suite.

7.       Knowledge of web based electronic resources to include Ellucian Colleague, COD, NSLDS, FAFSA, PHEAA and the ability to learn and use other current applications.

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

High traffic/volume office.  Will include periodic weekend or evening hours for special events.
