POSITION: Director of Sports Information
DIVISION: Enrollment Management
CLASSIFICATION: Professional
DEPARTMENT: Public Relations
POSITION REPORTS TO: Director of Public Relations/Director of Athletics
JOB FUNCTION: Coordinate a comprehensive program of publicity for the 27 varsity sports in the Kings’ College intercollegiate athletic program via local, regional, and national print, and electronic media.
ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:
1. Develops relationships with
members of the media.
2.
Provides game-day and pre- and postgame information and results to
media representatives covering live games. Includes media representatives for
visiting colleges.
3.
Pitches story ideas; coordinates and schedules
interviews of coaches and student- athletes with media.
4. Implements comprehensive
hometown news release programs for student-athletes.
5. Serves as a liaison between
the King’s College, the MAC, and the NCAA.
6. Serves as spokesperson for
the King’s Athletic Department where appropriate.
7.
Compiles statistics for varsity athletic teams and
distributes them to NCAA, MAC, and
other organizations where appropriate.
8.
In-game working knowledge of StatCrew
statistical software, with specific experience in football, basketball,
volleyball, and ice hockey preferred.
9.
Produces and distributes statistics and results of
regional championship events hosted by the college.
10.
Is responsible for the development and maintenance of
the athletics pages on the King’s College website; knowledge of
Sidearm-designed websites is desirable .
11.
Solicit bids, designs and produces athletic media
guides, brochures, game programs, and related printed materials
12. Sells advertising, where
necessary, for sporting events and/or program
guides.
13. Coordinates photography
needs for athletic events and teams.
14.
Prepares nominations and vote for various all-star,
All-American, and other academic and special awards.
15.
Directs all activities in press box for home football and basketball
games; serves as official
statistician for all home football and basketball games;
monitors and addresses professional conduct of all press-box personnel.
16.
Travels with King’s College football team on all road
games when home schedule permits or as required by the Director of Athletics.
17. Recruits student
statisticians for athletic events.
18.
Provides player and statistician information to
opponents for program and publicity purposes.
19. Manage sports information budget.
20.
Supervises the Assistant Director of Sports
Information, as well as prospective interns and student workers.
NON-ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:
1. Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
1.
College degree.
2. Experience in sports writing
or having worked in a college sports
information setting.
3. Knowledge of NCAA statistics
and policies for reporting.
4.
Knowledge of computer statistics programs.
