POSITION:                              Assistant Director of Educational Programs

 

CLASSIFICATION:                  Exempt

 

DEPARTMENT:                      Hispanic Outreach

 

POSITION REPORTS TO:       Director of Hispanic Outreach

 

 

General Responsibilities

 

A. Coordinate and oversee Adult ESL evening program

B. Coordinate and oversee middle school Pathways to Success Program.

C. Assist with Pathways to College/High School Mentoring Program and Flood Afterschool Homework Help Program.

D. Assist with Summer Programs

E. Participate in campus and community planned events

 

Specific Duties

 

A. Adult ESL evening program (evenings, 6:00 – 9:00 M – Th, plus administrative time.)

·         Develop and distribute flyers to advertise program

·         Plan and execute diagnostic testing and placement

·         Recommend teachers for program; serve as liaison between teachers and MHOP office

·         Coordinate classrooms reservations

·         Coordinate childcare services (with McGowan scholars and others: volunteers or work-study)

·         Recruit, place and supervise King’s College students as Conversation Partners

·         Teach one section of ESL

·         Determine need for and organize a Citizenship Preparation Class annually if necessary

 

 

B. Middle School Pathways to Success Program (2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. when sessions are held)

·         Plan six session per semester with King’s academic and professional clubs

·         Recruit students from GAR, Meyers, Solomon and Coughlin

·         Arrange transportation schedule

·         Meet with King’s student presenters prior to the scheduled sessions

·         Provide on-site supervision on the days that the program meets.

·         Regular evaluation of the program.

·         Recruit for three-week summer program.

 

C. High School Mentoring and Flood Afterschool Homework Help

·         Assist the Director with various details of the high school mentoring program such as recruitment, classroom reservation, lesson planning, scheduling, transportation, supervision, and attendance.

·         Teach the Walking Through the College Admissions Process class to high school juniors or concurrent class to sophomores in the mentoring program. (Mondays 2:00-5:00)

·          Participate in rotation at Dan Flood Afterschool Homework Help Program approximately 4 times per month. (12-14 sessions per semester; 3 hours; Tuesday or Thursday, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.)

 

 

D. Summer Programs

·         Middle School-assist with planning and execution of three-week summer session. Late June through early July; hours to be determined.

·         Coordinate snack program with CEO or appropriate organization.

·         Coordinate daily transportation for Middle School students to and from the program.

·         Be available and assist Director with the three-week Summer Residential Enrichment Program. Late June through early July, (usually concurrent with Middle School Summer Session) hours to be determined.

 

E. Other duties as assigned by the Director.

·         Assist with annual McGowan Scholars Retreat

·         Organize Service Learning for CORE 147

·         Assist with Open House, Accepted Student Day, or other recruiting and community events (Weekends between 11:00am-1:00pm)

 

Work hours:  Monday through Thursday 2:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with dinner break

                        Friday 9:00 a.m. -4:00 p.m.

 

SKILLS, ESPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

1.      Bilingual (English-Spanish)

2.      BA in education preferred

3.      Teaching experience

4.      Proven leadership and organizational skills

5.      Ability to develop and implement educational programs

6.      Good communication skills both written and verbal
