POSITION:                                          Assistant Circulation Supervisor

WORK SCHEDULE:                           40 Hours per week

Sunday through Thursday, 2:00 p.m. to 11 p.m.

GRADE:                                              30

REPORTS TO:                                     Circulation Supervisor

 

JOB FUNCTION:  The Assistant Circulation Supervisor assists the Circulation Supervisor with the circulation and stack maintenance of the Library’s collections, course reserves and interlibrary loans.  During evening, weekends, and the absence of the Circulation Supervisor, the Assistant Circulation Supervisor assumes responsibility for the operations of the Circulation Department.

            The operation and supervision of the library is a collaborative process involving consultation.  This is particularly true of those operations in direct contact with the public.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.      Manages the Circulation Department during evenings and weekends, including but not limited to the communication and interpretation of library policies and procedures to all users.  Oversees all matters related to circulation and material recall, including response to queries and resolution of circulation problems and concerns for staff and users.

2.      Assists with daily interlibrary loan, course reserve, and stack maintenance operations.

3.      Perform duties associated with the circulation of library materials.

4.      With the Circulation Supervisor is responsible for building safety.  Provides initial response, coordination or reporting of situation as appropriate.

5.      Under the supervision of the Circulation Supervisor, assists with training, development, and evaluation of department personnel and student assistants.

6.      Supervises assigned student assistants and circulation assistants on evenings and weekends.

7.      Answers and refers (as appropriate) inquiries and requests.

8.      Monitors equipment and resolve or report maintenance issues (e.g. photocopiers, printers).

 

NON-ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:

1.      Assists patrons in the use of information resources when necessary.

2.      May be assigned by the Director, appropriately related special duties deemed necessary and important to the functioning of the Library.

3.      Performs other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPEREINCE AND TRAINING:

1.      Bachelor’s degree preferred.  Training and supervisory experience preferred.

2.      Library experience preferred.  Understanding / appreciation of the academic enterprise.

3.      Ability to train and supervise in routine matters of policy and procedure

4.      Well-developed interpersonal skills.  Ability to get along with diverse personalities and work with the public.  Tactful, mature.

5.      Analytical, numerical and reasoning abilities.

6.      Good communication skills with ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing.

7.      Basic keyboard and computer skills.
