Status Report:

Proposed College policy on the College’s tuition exchange programs

Frederick C. Sauls, Faculty Council Chair

September 16, 2005

Discussions with Ms Peck elicited the following information on this question.

The root cause is our large “balance of payments” problem; more of our faculty’s children go to other colleges than come here from outside.  As a consequence, the agency administering one of the tuition exchange programs has put restrictions in place.  There seems little we can do about this in the short term.  Therefore, we must adapt to changed circumstances.

The proposed policy was authored by Human Resources since it concerns employee benefits.  Financial Aid was consulted, since they administer the program.

The proposed policy has been reviewed by senior staff and the President, and was forwarded to Barry Williams, the chair of the Faculty Benefits Committee, on 9/7/05.

Nick Holodick and Teresa Peck met with Barry to discuss the process of moving the policy forward.  During this meeting Barry indicated he had some questions regarding the policy.

It was decided that Barry would discuss his questions with the director of Human Resources and the VP for Business Affairs, prior to circulating the document.  They met and minor adjustments were made to the document.

The Faculty Benefits Committee, Nick, Teresa, Lisa Marie, Erin Savitski, and Ellen McGuire will meet on September 27 to discuss the policy and to answer any questions the Committee may have.
