Report of the Chair

Meeting with Fr. O’Hara:

• Fr. O’Hara feels finalizing the new governance structure should be a top Council priority.
• Fr. O’Hara is pleased with C&T schedule for new core curriculum implementation. He is hopeful something concrete can be presented at the February, 2007 meeting of the Board of Directors.
• Bill Bolan, new Director of the Shoval Center, will give a presentation to Council at the 9/28 meeting.
• Council Chair noted that invited faculty presence at recent presentations by architectural firms for the renovation of Holy Cross Hall is a good example of “faculty inclusion” in general campus concerns. Dan Ghezzi represented Council at a recent presentation. Council Chair will participate in Friday’s session.

A&P Report, Jayne Klenner-Moore

• Items up for committee discussion are (a) faculty/student travel policy, (b) weight of teaching, scholarship, and service in tenure/promotion evaluation, and (c) academic integrity.
• Barb Sauls is the new Group A rep to the committee, and Ron Liebler is replacing Bindu Vyas for the fall semester.

C&T Report, Jennifer McClinton-Templeton

• The current focus of discussion is on the social science and history offerings in the core curriculum.

Old Business

• There is still no chair-elect for Faculty Benefits Committee. Council Chair asked Council members to seek volunteers.
• Council Chair noted A&P needs to get the new governance proposal ready for the October meeting of the Board of Directors.
• Fr. Looney also noted the Academic Administration is examining the policy passed by FC last year to assess the best way to implement the new policy. The Administration may consult with A&P for clarification about the meaning and intention behind some aspects of the procedure/policy.

New Business

• Sheileen Corbett, Social Affairs Committee. The committee is discussing strategies for fostering faculty cohesion and spirit. Specific ideas recently discussed were (a) “roving socials,” social events held periodically in varying department areas; (b) fund-raising events for the Faculty Scholarship.

• Disabilities Oversight Committee. Council Chair will be meeting with Teresa Peck, AVP for Enrollment and Academic Services, to coordinate thinking about issues pertaining to accessibility on our campus.

• Part-time faculty inclusion. Nick Holodick (VPAA), Howard Fedrick, and Jen Fry (Adjunct Lecturer– History Department) will meet to examine the issues.

Meeting adjourned at 3:11PM.

Next meeting is scheduled for September 28 at 2PM in Lipo, SFCC

Respectfully submitted,

Charles Brooks
