Downloading Office 2007 Files in WebCT

Office 2007 introduced a new set of file formats for their native documents. Classic extensions had an "x" added to the end (.docx, .pptx, etc) for the XML data which they contained. Files can still be saved in the Office 97-2003 format by clicking Save As > Office 97-2003 Compatible. If your instructor posts a file in this format and you're using Internet Explorer 7, you will not be able to open or save the files properly.

Click on the link and IE will ask if you want to open or save the file-- choose Save.

Change the .zip file extension to the proper extension.

Open the file on your computer and it should run in PowerPoint if you have Office 2007. If you do not have Office 2007, try a lab computer on campus.
