When you log on to your WebCT course, the first thing you see is the Homepage.

From the Homepage you can navigate to any point in your course quickly and easily.

Your homepage at a glance

Homepage includes the following features:

  • a Menu Bar gives you constant access to elements such as myWebCT, Resume Course, Course Map, and Help.
  • the title of your course
  • breadcrumbs that show your location within the course
  • a left hand Navigation Bar that provides you with quick and easy navigation around your course.
  • a Content Area in which actual course material is displayed (pictured)

Explaining the Menu Bar

The Menu Bar includes the following features:

Menu Bar Item Explanation

myWebCT

Allow you to see a list of courses in which you are registered.

Resume Course

Allow you to resume your place in the Content Module.

Course Map

Allow you to view the structure of the entire course on one page. The course elements are hyperlinks, enabling you to go to any place in the course from a single page. This tool simplifies navigation and is especially useful for courses with a large number of elements

Help

Links you to the context-sensitive online Help.

Explaining the Navigation Bar

The left-hand Navigation Barincludes the following features:

Show/Hide Navigation Toggle

Hides the Navigation Bar and expands the Content area

Course tools

Serves as a course menu and provides access to the most important components of your course


About Add Page or Tool

Use Add Page or Tool to add pages of course content, hyperlinks to websites, or WebCT tools to your course. You can add tools directly to the Homepage, or you can create an Organizer page on which you can group links to tools of similar function. You can also use Add Page or Tool to add a link to an external website, or to content on the WebCT e-Learning Hub.

Before you add a page or tool, you must decide these three points:

  • the type of page or tool you want to add
  • where you want to display the page or tool
  • how you want the page or tool to appear as a hyperlink

Choosing the type of page or tool

There are five categories of pages or tools that you can add to your WebCT course. These are:

Choosing where to display the page or tool

You can display the page or tool in one or both of the following locations:

    • as a hyperlink on the Navigation Bar at the left side of every page of your WebCT course
    • as a hyperlink on the Homepage or an Organizer page. Note: If you want to add the page or tool to an Organizer page, you must add the Organizer page before adding the page or tool.

Choosing the appearance of the link

If you are adding the link to the Homepage or an Organizer page, you can choose its appearance. You can choose to display it as text only, as an icon only, or as an icon with a title.

Note: If you are adding the link to the Navigation Bar, it will appear as text only.
