Known Browser Conflicts with WebCT
On occasion, your WebCT experience may be interrupted by some settings in your internet browser. If you experience such problems as a blank screen or your myWebCT page not loading, a simple check with the WebCT Browser Tuneup ( located at http://www.webct.com/tuneup ) could take care of things much faster than you think. It can isolate and help you resolve some of the issues listed below and it is on the cutting edge, so no version is too new for the WebCT Browser Tuneup.
Cascading style sheets (CSS) are not enabled
CSS is a way to format a large amount of pages from one simple file. If your browser doesn't recognize them, you are probably experiencing difficulty on other web pages too. WebCT uses them to apply our King's colors to the WebCT templates.
Javascript is not enabled
Javascript is a language that works along with HTML to make pages run faster and more efficiently, while also achieving dynamic tasks. WebCT requires Java for a number of things-all the way from login to exams.
Cookies are not enabled
Some cookies are spyware and some browsers may block them. Most cookies are used to remember your identity and where to take you back to on a site. You must allow cookies from courses.kings.edu or enable them for your WebCT session or WebCT will not function.
Internet security applications/Security settings are too high
Internet Explorer's "high" setting renders WebCT useless because it blocks many of the above mentioned things, like CSS and cookies.
Popup ad blockers
Tests and other things open in a new window (AKA pop-up) in WebCT, so you must allow the domain courses.kings.edu on your blocker, or disable it for the WebCT session.
Personal firewalls on the local system
Firewalls help keep people from accessing your system, but a firewall may enable other settings like those outlined above.
Corporate or ISP firewalls
Businesses use firewalls for security, just like you may at home. You may be unable to edit the firewall settings at a corporate location, so you may need to find another location to access your course, like King's Corgan Library or computer labs.
Bad cookies or pages in the cache/temporary internet files
Sometimes cookies may get confused. It is always good to regularly empty your temporary internet files. In doing so, you will delete the bad pages or cookies.
