# of Years Judging: 12

# of rounds on topic: 20

I hate writing these things. You would think after all these years of

writing them it would become second nature, however it doesn't. For those

of you I have judged before I don't believe that my preferences have

changed anyI've just traveled far less than usual this past year. For

those of you I have not judged, here is a brief explanation.

What I Like: I like strategies that promote an equitable division of

ground. I like teams to compare evidencewell qualified evidence is always

preferred to the random news wire report. I like teams to have fun and

treat their opponents and colleagues with respect. Since I don't learn

new tricks well, Clinton and a counterplan is always a comfortable

strategy for me.

Topicality: Well developed topicality arguments can be enjoyable. I

prefer that the focus of the debate to be reasons to prefer and equitable

division of resolutional ground. I can't think of a time that I've voted

on a RVI on topicality.

Kritiks: I'll be honest, I'm not a big fan of them. However I realize

that I'm in the minority on this opinion. If you do run a kritik in front

of me you should: clearly explain the link and the implication of the

argument.

Counterplans: Teams should clearly state whether or not their counterplan

is conditional or dispositional. Permutations are only a test of

competition and to do this they should include the full text of the plan

and the counterplan. Please write out the full text of the permutation so

I can peruse it after the round.

Have questions???? Please feel free to ask.
