"Last Call" Caps Off Alcohol Awareness Week

The real party last weekend was not at any kind of bar, but instead in the Scandlon gymnasium. The event, “Last Call,” was the final celebration in a week long effort to raise alcohol awareness.

The highlight of the night was a hypnotist eager to make staff members cry; turn resident assistants into samurai warriors, and to bring back the heartthrobs of NSYNC. If there were any skeptics in the crowd, there probably were not many afterwards.

Before being hypnotized into referring to himself as Godzilla, Tom Lange was a skeptic.

“I felt he was pulling my strings, I thought nothing was going to happen, I had my doubts, and then I felt focused,” he said.

Tom Lange was also hypnotized into threatening an audience member yelling, “I’ll crush you” and later performing NSYNC’s “bye, bye, bye.”

The hypnotist claimed that each of the participants received the equivalent to a full night’s sleep.

“I felt wide awake and well rested, and definitely ready to get some of the free food in the cafeteria,” Chris Claus, another NSYNC impersonator, recalled. The midnight breakfast was free to anyone who attended Last Call.

To Mike Buckwash, a senior at King’s, his favorite part of the night was making a t-shirt.

“The selections of the T-Shirts were hilarious. Me and my girlfriend got a ‘kids of the year’ t-shirts. Where else in the world but King’s could you get a shirt like that with your face on it?”

Many of the organizers from campus activities believed Last Call to be a success. Justin Vacula said events like this allow “students have a real party in a fun and safe environment.”

“It’s a great opportunity to meet new people…who is going to pass up free food, t-shirts, and activities,” Stewart Mulzac stated.

Other events that ran throughout the night were laser tag, an obstacle course, inflatable twister and log rolling. The event started at 7:30 and ended around midnight. Last Call is a yearly event and is sponsored by the campus activities department at King’s.
