Last year, students submitted applications proposing a theme the new house at 187 North Franklin Street. The six girls and five boys who won the contest and now live at the property submitted the winning theme of Campus Ministry and Service.
“We are hoping to serve the community on a regular basis, while also trying to get more of our student body to take advantage of everything Campus Ministry has to offer for the students,” Jared Menghini, Resident Assistant in 187 said.
The residents, along with help from the Office of Residence Life, Brother Albert and the Office of Volunteer Services, will organize service projects throughout the year, which are also open to the entire campus. Their first service project is with the Commission on Economic Opportunity (CEO) on October 4 from 9:00AM to 12:00PM. Future service projects include helping with Hunger for Justice Week, cleaning up King’s campus, organizing a benefit concert and working with Habitat for Humanity.
“I think that with the group of people that I am living with, we really can change King’s College for the better little by little,” Menghini added.
The residents of the house are organizing an open house for the senior faculty and CSC members to see the house and enjoy a cookout. There will also be a mass open to the entire student body at 5:00 PM in the chapel on the twelfth floor of Holy Cross Hall.
The residents of 187 are now working on a website to keep students up-to-date on events. In the meantime, students can e-mail Menghini at jaredmenghini@kings.edu for more information. |
