In the past Dr. Paul Zbiek, a history professor at King's, completed his indoor cycling marathons at Sickler's Bike Shop located in Exeter . This year, with the opening of the new wellness center on campus Dr. Zbiek decided to complete half of the rides at King's.

During the two week period, which began on February 10, Zbiek is completing 15 daily “indoor centuries.” A century consists of ride that is at least six hours long. Dr. Zbiek is completing these races either before or after his classes.

The Brandon J. Case Memorial “Spin for Life,” which benefits students at King's who excel in history or geography, will be held Saturday February 23 at Sickler's. Along with benefiting King's, some of the money raised will also be given to Candy's Place in Forty Fort.

“Candy's Place is a local cancer resource center for individuals and their loved ones,” said Zbiek. “They offer a wide range of complementary programs and services for survivors, caregivers and their families.”

The “Spin for Life” honors Brandon J. Case, a King's student who passed away in 1999 after a three year battle with leukemia. Case was also Zbiek's stepson.

“Despite his ordeal, Brandon was an inspiration to all those he encountered,” said Zbiek. “Brandon's fight continues through the efforts of the people at Candy's Place.”

On Saturday participants in the spin will ride for 45 minutes between the hours of 7 am and 7 pm in Sickler's indoor cycling center. Teams are made up of five people, including one team captain. Each team or rider will be given an individual time slot.

The riders are asked to raise $20. Individual riders are also welcome.

A major sponsor requires a $150 donation will receive their name on the complementary t-shirt. Major sponsors can be any business, organization or group of people. For those who cannot attend individual donations will also be gratefully accepted.

This is the seventh year for the “Spin for Life.” In the last six years nearly $50,000 has been raised. Over 1000 people have participated either by spinning or just lending their support.
