The King's College Criminal Justice Association: 2002-2003

The King's College Criminal Justice Association has been active throughout the Fall 2002 semester. This list includes the events that the association has completed and also upcoming events planned for the spring 2003 semester.

1. In October, currant members hosted a Criminal Justice Alumni party for all graduates of the discipline. This was held at Rodano's Restaurant in Wilkes-Barre. This gave current Criminal Justice students an opportunity to converse with graduates who are employed in the Criminal Justice field. This was a very successful event for the association.

2. Members of the association continue to attend the North Main Street Crime Watch meeting. This is an ongoing project to integrate students in the community, and participate in community service. Activities include helping residents rake their leaves and shovel their sidewalks under snow conditions.

3. Members of the association attended the Jackson Township, Pennsylvania, Crime Watch meeting, and gave a Community Oriented Police Problem-Solving presentation to the residents of Jackson Township, Pennsylvania. This explained to citizens the importance of their meetings, and that their participation helps assist law enforcement in relieving some aspects of crime.

4. The association also participated in the March of Dimes "Jail and Bail" annual fundraiser. This was held at the Wyoming Valley Mall. The association raised over $400.00 for this cause.

Upcoming events include:

1. On December 7, 2002 members of the association along with the sophomore class, here at King's College, will host a Holiday Party on Public Square, Wilkes-Barre. This event is to help less fortunate children enjoy the holidays. The time will be from 10am to 1pm, and all are welcome.

2. In the month of December, the association will hold its annual Holiday party. It is open to all students and faculty of the Criminal Justice and Sociology Department. More information on the location and time will be provided.
