Faculty Development at King's College

Besides the activities of CELT listed below and elsewhere on this site, King's College provides different means of concrete support for faculty improvement, related to teaching, scholarship, and service.

Among these policies, described in the Full-time Faculty Handbook 2004, are: 

• Reduction in Teaching Load (p. 40): for individuals to perform extraordinary duties or to promote faculty development.
• Differential Workloads (pp. 40-42):  temporarily reduces the teaching load for faculty working on special projects.
• Team Teaching (pp. 43-44):  gives appropriate compensation for instructors working together on a course.
• Faculty Travel (pp. 44-45):  supplies funds to pay for all or partial costs in attending conferences and symposia.
• Summer Research Grants (pp. 46-47):  stipend equivalent to teaching two three-credit summer courses.
• Salary Adjustment for Merit (pp. 53-55):  permanent salary increase for commendable faculty at the top of their rank's scale.  
• Leaves (pp. 55-56):  with pay for very special circumstances, or without pay but with some benefits to support study, research, service, etc.
• Senior Faculty Review (pp. 84-86):  financial support for a tenured or academic appointment faculty member's professional interests.
• Sabbatical (p. 6):  leave with full compensation for one semester or half salary over two semesters.

Calls for Papers and Proposals

Journal of College Reading and Learning published by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA): a forum for current theory, research, practice, and policy related to postsecondary reading improvement and learning assistance.  Manuscripts are invited on college reading, learning strategies, tutoring, critical thinking, writing, program evaluation and management).
