LADY MONARCHS WIN KING'S TOURNEY FOR 8TH STRAIGHT YEAR
WILKES-BARRE – Kaitlyn Malshefksi earned most valuable player honors
as the King’s College Volleyball Tournament championship trophy will
reside in Scandon Gymnasium for the eighth straight year.
King’s won two matches on Saturday to finish the event with a
perfect 4-0 mark in the tournament. After besting Mt. St. Mary’s
and Misericordia on Friday, the Lady Monarchs posted respective 3-1
victories over Marywood and Wilkes on Saturday to claim the
tournament crown. King’s defeated Marywood25-18, 9-25, 25-19, 25-17.
The Lady Monarchs then downed Wilkes 26-24, 25-19, 23-25, 25-13.
In Saturday’s games, Malshefeski tallied 21 kills against Wilkes
with 12 kills and eight digs against Marywood. Clerici netted eight
kills against Wilkes while adding seven kills, and four blocks
versus Wilkes. Danielle Belfanti contributed 32 digs and seven
service points against Wilkes while adding 26 digs and nine service
points versus Marywood. Katie Doss totaled 10 kills with 15 digs on
the day while sophomore setters Samantha Garrigues and Kelly
Greenway combined for 54 assists.
The all-tournament team included Malshefski, and Lady Monarch
teammate Kat Clerici. The King’s duo were joined on the team by
Misericordia’s Michelle DiCicco, Merissa Harrington of Wilkes, and
Marywood’s Emily Fillman.
