KING'S VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO
DESALES 3-1 IN FREEDOM SEMI-FINALS
CENTER VALLEY -- The King's College
women's volleyball team saw its season come to an end as the
Lady Monarchs dropped a 3-1 decision to top-seeded DeSales
University in the Freedom Conference Tournament semi-finals
Wednesday in Center Valley.
DeSales won by scores of 27-30, 30-19, 30-26, 30-23.
With the win, DeSales improved to 20-9 and advanced to
Saturday's conference title game. King's, meanwhile, saw its
season end with a 21-14 mark.
Fourth-seeded King's took a 1-0 lead by winning the first game
30-27, but the tide would take a dramatic turn for the worse
when standout freshman setter Samantha Garrigues went down early
in the second game with an ankle injury and would not return.
DeSales would go on to take the next three games as the Lady
Monarchs were unable to right the ship.
Kaitlyn Malshefski led King's with
13 kills while Katie Doss added 10 kills and 10 digs. Danielle
Belfanti posted 33 digs and 13 service points while Kat Clerici
contributed with eight kills. Garrigues registered 15 assists in
just over a game while backup setter Kely Greenway responded
gamely with 23 assists. Emily Kline and Samantha Page combined
for eight kills while Shannon Ellis chipped in with eight digs.
