KING'S VOLLEYBALL WELCOMES MISERICORDIA TO MAC FREEDOM PLAY WITH A 3-0 TRIUMPH
 
   
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's women's volleyball team opened its 2008 Freedom Conference schedule with a hard-fought 3-0 victory over Misericordia University Tuesday in Scandlon Gymnasium.

King's won by scores of 25-15, 25-23, 25-22.

With the win, King's improved 7-2 overall and 1-0 in league play while Misericordia slipped to 6-3 and 0-1 as a first-year member of the Freedom Conference. Two of the Cougars three losses have come at the hands of King's this season.

King's easily won the first game, but Misericordia jumped out to a 9-5 lead in game-two. The Cougars would maintain the lead until a block by Kat Clerici and back-to-back kills by Kaitlyn Malshefski gave King's a 24-22 lead.  In the third game, the teams battled to an 18-18 tie until the Lady Monarchs outscored Misericordia 7-4 the rest of the way to earn the victory

Clerici led King's with 13 kills and four total blocks while Malshefski followed with 12 kills. Samatha Garrigues dished out 35 assists while Danielle Belfanti registered 23 digs and six service points. Katie Doss tallied six kills and 13 digs while Emily Kline added six kills.  Nadya Alboschy chipped in with three digs.

Misericordia was paced by Michelle DiCicco with 11 kills and three solo blocks while Krystal Burford followed with six kills.

Jesse Karger dished out 14 assists while Megan Hotaling added 10 assists. Kristin Hoffman contributed five kills while Shannon Kane and Amy Porambo chipped in with 13 and 12 digs respectively.

King's will host St. Elizabeth College of New Jersey Friday at 7:00 p.m. in Scandlon Gymnasium.
