KING'S VOLLEYBALL CAPTURES TOURNEY CHAMPIONSHIP
FOR NINTH STRAIGHT YEAR, CLERICI NAMED MVP
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College volleyball team
swept visiting Marywood University and Wilkes University 3-0 Saturday to
capture the championship at the King's College Invitational Tournament
for the ninth straight year. Wilkes University finished second in
tournament play.
With the victories, King's improves to 4-0
overall.
In the first match against Marywood, the Lady
Monarchs earned the win by scores of 30-16, 30-12, and 30-27. In the
second match against Wilkes, King's won by scores of 30-28, 30-20, and
30-23.
King's
was led by tournament most valuable player sophomore Kat Clerici (left)
with 23 kills and three solo blocks. All-tournament selection sophomore
Danielle Belfanti earned all-tournament team honors by adding 36 digs,
six assists, and 28 service points. Sophomore Kaitlyn Malshefski posted
12 kills.
Freshmen Kelly Greenway contributed 49 assists, while freshmen Samantha
Garrigues finished with 49 assists, 10 kills and 31 service points.
Sophomore Shannon Ellis added 18 digs, while sophomore Katie Doss helped
out with 16 digs and six kills.
The Lady Monarchs will return to action Wednesday
when they host Cedar Crest College for a game at 7:00 p.m. at Scandlon
Gymnasium.
