KING'S BELFANTI NAMED MAC FREEDOM VOLLEYBALL
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
WILKES-BARRE
-- King's College volleyball standout
Danielle Belfanti (Reading/Holy Name) has been named the
Freedom Conference "Player of the Week", the Middle Atlantic
Conference office announced on Monday.
Belfanti led King’s to a 3-2 week in an unexpected, expanded role
due to injuries. King’s starting libero, the 5-5 Belfanti was forced
to move to setter after injuries to the Lady Monarchs top two
setters.
In King’s first match of the week, a 3-0 win over Misericordia,
Belfanti played libero and posted 23 digs with an assist and three
service aces. At the Roadrunner Invitational at Ramapo College, she
played two matches at Libero, and was also forced into the setter
role. In her two matches at libero against tournament runner-up
Ramapo and SUNY IT, she combined for 56 digs, averaging 8.0 digs
per-game, while also contributing six service aces and an assist.
In her two matches at setter against eventual tournament champion
City College of New York and Old Westbury, she distributed 44
assists, averaging 8.8 per-game, with 13 digs, three kills, and one
ace. Her contributions at two positions in the event earned her a
spot on the all-tournament team.
Belfanti has started all 28 matches for King's (16-12) thus far and
has recorded a 572 digs thus far. With six regular season matches
left in the season, she figures to shatter the school-record of 585
digs set by former King's all-American Jessica McVey in 2002.
Additionally, Belfanti has tallied 44 service aces and 65 assists on
the year.
Belfanti and her King's teammates return to action Wednesday at home
with a 7:00 p.m. contest against Wilkes University in Scandlon
Gymnasium.
