SCRANTON DOWNS KING'S IN WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL, 3-2
The visiting University of Scranton women's
volleyball team jumped out to a 2-0 lead but then had to hold on to post a
3-2 victory over host Kings College in an important MAC Freedom Conference
matchup Wednesday in Scandlon Gymnasium.
Scranton won the first two games 31-29 and 30-25 to
build a 2-0 lead. King's stormed back to capture the next two games 30-19
and 30-20 to send the match to a deciding fifth game. Scranton built a 7-5
lead and held for a 15-12 triumph to secure the match.
With the loss, King's falls to 13-10 overall and 2-2
in the Freedom Conference. Scranton improved to 13-8 and 3-1.
King's was led by senior Jessica McVey who set a new
school record for digs in a five-game match with 43, surpassing the mark
of 35 she set last week. McVey also added 22 kills, 12 service points, and
five aces. Annie German followed with 26 kills and 14 digs. Elena DiGrado
added 20 digs and nine kills while Jessica Luedeman chipped in with 56
assists.
Scranton was led by Marta DeLong with 16 kills, 12
digs, and 4 blocks. Kim McManus followed with 17 digs and six blocks.
Cassie Dyer distributed 47 assists while Krista Hylinski added eight kills
and 12 digs. Katie McManus chipped in with 11 kills.
