O'DELL BREAKS KILLS MARK AS KING'S DEFEATS WILKES
WILKES-BARRE -- King's College senior Faith O'Dell broke the King's
College volleyball record for career kills as the Lady Monarchs defeated
host Wilkes University 3-0 Wednesday in the Marts Center.
King's, which won by scores of 30-18, 30-16, 30-22, improved to 32-1 on
the year.
O'Dell entered the match with 1,253 kills and needed just three to pass
the mark of Michelle Simcoe who posted 1,225 kills from 1992-95. O'Dell
reached the milestone in the first game as her third kill came with the
Lady Monarchs holding a 11-5 advantage. O'Dell, who played sparingly
as King's coach Bernie Kachinko rested a number of starters, finished with
seven kills and 13 digs and now has 1,260 kills. O'Dell's milestone is
even more impressive as it came in just three season compared to four for
Simcoe. The lady Monarch senior came to King's in 2000 after transferring
from Division II Clarion and her statistics from the Western Pennsylvania
university are not included in her career totals.
Jessica McVey led King's with 12 kills and 16 digs, while Tara Holly added
eight kills and 25 digs. Lauren Foster, subbing for injured starting
setter Katie Baffone, dished out 20 assists.
The Lady Monarchs will host 2001 NCAA national qualifier Kean University
Saturday at 12:00 noon in Scandlon Gymnasium.
