KING'S VOLLEYBALL WINS GREEN TERROR
INVITATIONAL, DROPS FIRST MATCH OF THE YEAR
WESTMINSTER, MD -- The King's College
women's volleyball match dropped its first match of the season, but the
Lady Monarchs came back to win the Green Terror Invitational Tournament at
McDaniel College, Westminster, Md.
King's, ranked second in the Mid-Atlantic
Region, won both its matches on Friday to advance to Saturday's
championship pool. The Lady Monarchs were paired with third-ranked Eastern
and fourth-ranked Moravian with the winner slated to move into the
championship match.
In King's first match, the Lady Monarchs
defeated Moravian 3-0 by scores of 30-27, 30-18, 30-21. King's then lost
its first match of the year to Eastern in a 3-2 marathon by scores of
27-30, 30-25, 21-30, 32-30, 15-11 and saw its school-record winning streak
end at 30.
Moravian then defeated Eastern 3-0 as all
three squads completed pool play with 1-1 records. King's would advance to
the championship match based on number of games won in the pool. King's
had a 5-3 game record compared to Moravian at 3-3 and Eastern at 3-5.
In the finals, the Lady Monarchs faced
arch-rival Scranton, which won the loser's bracket to advance to the title
match. Kings would claim the title with a 3-1 victory, winning by scores
of 26-30, 30-21, 30-22, 30-16, to improve its season record to 31-1.
Senior setter Katie Baffone as named to the
all-tournament team after posting148 assists, and 61 digs. Jessica McVey
added 72 digs and 62 kills.
Faith O'Dell added 47 kills and 72 digs to
pace the attack. Tara Holly contributed 65 digs, Annie German had 34
kills, Jill Leibman posted 22 kills, Stephanie Spencer chipped in with 14
kills, while Katie Carr followed with 33 digs.
King's returns to action Wednesday at 7:00
p.m. when the lady Monarchs travel to face Wilkes University in the Marts
Center.
