KING'S VOLLEYBALL WIN ONEONTA TOURNAMENT
(Coach Bernie Kachinko picks up 250th career win)

ONEONTA, NY --  The King's College women's volleyball team remained perfect this season as the Lady Monarchs won the team championship at the Oneonta State University Invitational Tournament Sunday in Oneonta, NY.

With the title, King's set a new school-record with its fifth championship of the season while Lady Monarch coach Bernie Kachinko picked up his 250th career win.  King's also improved its record to 26-0 on the year.

In the semi-finals, King's defeated Union College of New York 3-0 by scores of 30-23, 30-11, 30-19. Union was rated seventh in the Upstate New York Regional rankings.  In the finals, King's bested 2001 NCAA national qualifier Skidmore 3-0 by scores of 30-18, 30-16, 30-17.

In the win over Union, Faith O'Dell led the way with 22 kills and 18 digs. Jessica McVey followed with 13 kills and 21 digs.  Annie German added eight kills, Katie Baffone distributed 42 assists, and Tara Holly and Katie Carr had 11 digs each. Kachinko reached the 250-win plateau with the win over Union.

Against Skidmore, McVey led the squad with 17 kills and just one hitting error on 25 attacks while adding 14 digs. O'Dell followed with 13 kills and 13 digs. Stephanie Spencer added nine kills and four blocks while German chipped in with eight kills and three blocks.  Baffone dished out 41 assists while Holly had 12 digs.

O'Dell and McVey were named to the all-tournament team.

King's won its first two matches on Saturday to advance to the semi-finals.  The Lady Monarchs defeated New York Institute of Technology 3-0 in the opening round by scores of 30-20, 30-6, 30-12.  King's then posted a 3-0 victory over Clarkson by scores of 30-15, 30-21, 30-16.

O'Dell had 25 kills and 14 digs on the day to pace King's. German followed with 22 kills, 15 digs, and five blocks. Baffone added 58 assists, 13 digs, and seven service aces. McVey contributed 14 kills, 21 digs, and five aces. Stephanie Spencer had 12 kills and three blocks while Holly chipped in with 20 digs. Carr had 12 digs while Jessica Kandefer posted six aces.

King's will next travel to Center Valley on Tuesday to face DeSales University in an MAC Freedom Conference matchup.
