KING'S VOLLEYBALL REMAINS UNBEATEN BY HANDING FDU-FLORHAM ITS SECOND DEFEAT OF THE SEASON BY A 3-0 COUNT

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College women's volleyball team took one step closer to securing home court advantage throughout the MAC Freedom Conference playoffs as the Lady Monarchs shook off a sluggish start to post a 3-0 triumph over visiting FDU-Florham Wednesday in Scandlon Gymnasium.

King's, which won by scores of 30-21, 30-11, 30-17, remained unbeaten at 22-0 while improving its conference record to 3-0.  The Devils, meanwhile, fell to 18-2 and 2-1 in conference play.

The Lady Monarchs started out slowly and struggled with passing early on. With the team's tied 7-7, King's went on a 3-1 spurt and slowly began to assume control as Jill Leibman of Coughlin posted five kills and to pace King's . 

In the second game, the Lady Monarch serve began to create offense. Katie Baffone served King's to a 4-1 lead, then Jessica McVey registered five consecutive service points, including three aces to give King's a quick 11-2 lead. Leibman and Annie German led the offensive onslaught with four kills each, while Leibman added three blocks.

In the third game, King's continued to dominate as Leibman and McVey posted four kills each while O'Dell added three. Tara Holly ignited the Lady Monarch defense with eight digs in the final game.

Overall, Leibman led the Lady Monarchs with 13 kills and five blocks. German followed with nine kills and six blocks. O'Dell added eight kills, eight service points, and 13 digs. McVey chipped in with six kills, 12 service points, and 11 digs.  Baffone dished out 24 assists while Holly added 16 digs. Steph Spencer contributed five kills and four blocks to aid the King's cause.

FDU was led by Jana Fassel with six kills and 18 digs. Erin LeBan followed with 18 assists and 10 digs.  Debbie Faber added seven kills while Sylvia Klus chipped in with 11 digs.

The Lady Monarchs will next compete in the Red Dragon Invitational at Oneonta State University, Oneonta, NY.
