KINGšS VOLLEYBALL GAINS MAC FREEDOM OPENING WIN OVER DEL-VALLEY

(King's sets school record with 13-0 start,  seniors post 100th career victory)

WILKES-BARRE --  The King's College women's volleyball team set a new school-record for season-opening wins as the Lady Monarchs defeated visiting Delaware Valley College in the MAC Freedom Conference opener for both teams.

In posting a 30-13, 30-11, 30-12 victory, Lady Monarch seniors Katie Baffone, Coughlin product Jill Leibman, and Tara Holly of Dallas earned the 100th victory of their four-year collegiate careers.  The trio have led the Lady Monarchs to a 100-13 record during their time at King's.

Faith O'Dell led the way for King's with 12 kills and 11 digs and became the first player in Lady Monarch history to reach the coveted 1,000-kill mark in three seasons. O'Dell, who surpassed the 1,000 dig mark as King's won the Lebanon Valley College Invitational on Saturday, is just the third Lady Monarch player to reach 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career.  She is also the first King's player to attain the milestone in three seasons. O'Dell, a Lake Lehman graduate, now has 1,035 digs and 1,000 kills in her three-year tenure with the Lady Monarchs.

Jessica McVey also led Kingšs with 10 kills, 10 digs, and three aces.  Leibman added 10 kills, while Baffone contributed 31 assists and four aces. Holly followed with eight digs while Jessica Kandefer chipped in with six kills.

With the win, King's improved to 13-0, its best start ever, surpassing the 12-0 marks achieved in 1999 and 2000.

"We had a very good effort tonight and I had the opportunity to play a lot of people and give some of our younger players a lot of work," King's coach Bernie Kachinko stated. "We are really starting to come together as a team and we have the potential to be perhaps the best team I have ever had here at King's.  We have a lot of talent a great work ethic, and group of players who are very close and are developing a special chemistry.  There is still for improvement but I really like what I see this early in the season.

King's will next compete in the Washington College Tournament Friday and Saturday in Chestertown, Md.
