LADY MONARCHS, BBC STAND AT 2-0 AFTER FIRSDT DAY OF KING'S VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT

WILKES-BARRE --  King's College and Baptist Bible College each won both matches played to pace the field of teams at the annual two-day King's Women's Volleyball Invitational Friday in Scandlon Gymnasium.

The Lady Monarchs (2-0) defeated Wilkes 3-0 by scores of 30-15, 30-15, 30-18, then followed with a 3-0 triumph over Misericordia by a 30-16, 30-15, 30-19 verdict.  Baptist Bible (2-0) defeated Wilkes 3-0 by scores of 23-30, 30-22, 30-23, 30-20 before sweeping Marywood 30-21, 30-20, 32-30.

King's was paced by Annie German with 20 kills while Faith O'Dell followed with 18 kills, 19 digs, and five service aces.  Katie Baffone dished out 40 assists, Jill Leibman posted 11 kills, and Jessica McVey added 13 kills, 15 digs, and six aces. Tara Holly chipped in with 18 digs.

Wilkes (0-2) was led by Megan Riley with 67 assists while Larissa Dobransky added 13 kills and four aces. Alicia Vieselmeyer followed with 13 kills and seven blocks, Kelly Svecz posted 12 kills and three blocks, while Amber Brennan chipped in with 12 digs.

Leading Misericordia (0-2) was the setter tandem of Jenn Jones and Katie Gorgos who combined for 57 assists, 29 digs, and three aces. Jen Kaufman added 12 kills and 11 digs while Amber Chadwick contributed 15 kills and 18 digs.  Kelly Coppage posted 14 kills, 28 digs, and three aces.

Marywood (1-1) was paced by Michelle Oros of Crestwood with 18 kills. Lauren Warburton dished out 30 assists, while Angela Myles chipped in with 13 kills and eight service aces.

Play will continue Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with Wilkes facing Marywood. At 12:30, King's will play Marywood, while Baptist Bible will battle Misericordia. At 2:30, King's will play Baptist Bible while Wilkes meets Misericordia.
