2007 Season Preview....

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College women's tennis team enters the 2007 season hopeful of improving on the 5-10 record accumulated in 2006.

The Lady Monarchs return a strong nucleus with five experienced starting players from last season.  Factor in eight newcomers and King's appears to have one of its deepest teams in recent memory

Leading the list of veterans is senior Kristen Hunter (left) who returns for her third season at the number-one singles and doubles positions for the Lady Monarchs. Hunter was 7-8 in singles last season while going 6-9 in doubles.  With two years of experience against the top singles and doubles players in the league, Hunter possesses the ability to challenge the top players in the conference.

Another top returning player is junior Brittany Turnbaugh who enjoyed an excellent 2006 season with an 11-3 mark at fifth singles while also sporting a 9-4 doubles mark.   Senior Amanda Marchica was 6-9 at third singles while also going 6-9 in doubles play.

Senior Sarah Guza played number-two singles last year where she was 3-12 and teamed with Hunter at number-one doubles where the duo was 6-9.

Newcomers looking to impact the program include first-year sophomores Christy Rossowski, Courtnay Wilson, and Melissa Rose Zipperlen. Rossowski, who set a number of school records as a member of King's swim team last year, worked out with the tennis team last spring and traveled with the squad to play in Florida during spring break where she gained valuable experience against collegiate competition.

Freshmen hoping to contribute include Megan Anascavage, Lauren Breen, Maria Cometa, Ashley McCulloch, and Jillian Tallarico.

King's will compete in the Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships October 20-21.
