KING'S TENNIS PLAYERS SEE MAC TITLE DREAMS COME UP SHORT
LANDISVILLE -- The King's women's tennis team saw their individual
hopes come up short on day two of the MAC Championships Sunday in
Landisville.
King's did come away with one conference
second-place finish and three individuals who advanced to the semi-final
round on Sunday
In
doubles, King's unseeded team of seniors Kristen Hunter (left) and Sarah
Guza (below) reached the championship match in the number-one flight. In
the finals, however, the dropped an 8-1 decision to top-seeded Allison
McDonald and
Xiaoqiao Zhang
of Wilkes.
The Lady Monarch duo advanced to the title match by defeating Lisa
Archibald and Jen Rossom of Albright 8-4 in the quarterfinals. In the
semi-finals on Saturday, they posted an 8-4 victory over Becky Reynolds
and Aimee Snyder of Lycoming. Hunter and Guza finished the season with a
15-3 doubles record.
In
the number-one singles flight, King's Hunter (13-6) dropped a 6-1, 6-3
verdict to second-seeded Alison McDonald of Wilkes.
At third singles, freshman Jillian Tallarico (11-7) fell by a 6-2, 6-2
margin to Kate Steiner of DeSales.
At number-four singles, senior Amanda Marchica (12-6) dropped a 6-0, 6-0
decision to Jess Smith of DeSales in a match that took nearly two hours
to complete despite the score.
Manhattanville College will serve as the
