KING'S MEGAN MICHAEL PLACES SECOND IN MAC TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS

MADISON, NJ -- King's College senior tennis standout Megan Michael finished second in the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships which concluded Sunday evening at Drew University, Madison, NJ.

A Wyoming Valley West High School product, Michael entered the event as the third seed in the number-one singles flight and won three straight matches to reach the finals. Michael posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Albright's Katie Miller, then followed with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Laura LeVan of DeSales. In the semi-finals, Michael posted an impressive 6-3, 6-0 win over second-seeded Stacy Shapiro of Elizabethtown to move on to the championship match.

Michael, though, would drop a 6-0, 6-4 verdict to top-seeded junior Erin Burke of Drew to conclude her season with a 14-4 mark. Three of Michael's losses on the year came at the hands of Burke, a Division I transfer from Seton Hall University. Michael became the first Lady Monarch to reach the MAC finals since Maria Adonizio won the MAC title in 1994, after finishing second in 1993.

At second singles, King's Kristen Hunter dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Susquehanna's Sara Lampe. In the third singles flight, Rita Kaluzavich posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Yana Ployakova of Widener, then added a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Lindsay Noll of Lebanon Valley. She then fell to third flight champion Courtney McClurkin of DeSales, 6-1, 6-0.

At fourth singles, Beth Ann Hill earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory over FDU-Florham's Julie Hartnett before falling 6-1, 6-1 to eventual champion Danielle Red of Scranton.

At number-five singles, Lindsay Pross dropped a 6-3, 7-5 decision to Kate Ottinger of DeSales. In the sixth singles flight, Kristen Sebastian defeated Colleen Solomon of DeSales 6-4, 6-3 before falling to eventual champion Brittany Popaca, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, the team Lady Monarch team of Michael and Kaluzavich won their first round match 9-7 before falling to eventual champions Shapiro/Kristy Trimbey, 8-4. Hunter and Hill earned a 8-1 win in their first match but fell 8-5 to Emma Smith and Emily Parenteo in their next match. Pross and Sebastian would drop their opening match by a 8-4 count to Jen Moyer and Allison Handman o Susquehanna.
