KING'S WOMEN'S TENNIS CLINCHES PLAYOFF BERTH WITH WIN OVER FDU

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College women's tennis team clinched its first Freedom Conference playoff berth since 2004 as the Lady Monarchs defeated visiting FDU-Florham 9-0 Tuesday at Kirby Park.

With the win, King's improved to 7-3 overall and 2-2 in Freedom Conference play. FDU, meanwhile, slipped to 2-9 and 0-4 in league matches.

King's opened the match by sweeping the doubles competition, winning 24 games compared to just four for the Devils. The Lady Monarchs then proceeded to sweep all six singles bouts without dropping a set to secure the victory.

Kristen Hunter improved to 8-2 in singles with a 6-2, 6-0 straight set victory over Jill Horn at the number-one position. Hunter then teamed up with Sarah Guza for an 8-2 victory in doubles to improved their team record to 8-2. Guza, Jillian Tallarico, Amanda Marchica posted wins in both singles and doubles for the Lady Monarchs while Liza Walpole and Courtnay Wilson each chipped in with singles victories. Walpole improved her singles record to 6-2. Christy Rossowski and Maria Cometa added another win in doubles for King's.

The Lady Monarchs will travel to face Keystone College Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. in La Plume.
