KING'S WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS SHORT IN UPSET BID OF
FDU
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College women's
soccer team fell short of pulling off a major upset when the lady
Monarchs dropped a hard-fought 2-2 decision to visiting FDU-Florham
Friday at Betzler Fields.
With the loss, King's ended its season with a 6-10-3 overall mark and a
0-5-2 Freedom Conference record. FDU, which will be the top-seed
in next week's Freedom Conference Tournament, improved to 11-5-1 and
6-0-1 in conference play.
King's would take a 1-0 lead into the halftime break when sophomore Lisa
McMillan dribbled through a trio of FDU defenders to score the first
goal of the game.
The Devils would tie the game just 4:57 into the second half when Jordan
Fornari scored off a crossing pass by Dianna Dunnan. FDU would
push across the winning goal when King's goalie Christina Uhl and a Lady
Monarch teammate collided attempting to gain possession of a loose ball.
The ball squirted free and FDU's Kate Daly knocked in the rebound for
what proved to be the winning goal.
Both teams had eight shots on the day with FDU holding a 5-3 advantage
in corner kicks. Uhl and FDU goalie Melissa Brown each made four
saves on the day.
