KING'S WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO SCRANTON, 1-0
WILKES-BARRE -- Eileen Sodano (Moscow/North
Pocono) scored on a breakaway with 27:00 remaining in the first half
for the only goal of the game as the University of Scranton women's
soccer team posted a 1-0 victory over host King's College Tuesday at
Betzler Fields.
With the win, Scranton improved to 6-2 overall and
3-0 in Freedom Conference play. King's, meanwhile, slipped to 3-2-2 and
0-1-2 in league action.
Sodano would push across the winning goal when a King's defender
attempted to sweep away a lead pass to the wing and stumbled to the
ground after stepping on the ball. Sodano would then race unabated to
net to put the ball past Lady Monarch goalie
Christina Uhl (Holtsville, NY/St. Anthony).
King's nearly tied the score early in the second
half when an indirect kick by Adrienne Stine (York/Northeastern)
bounced off the cross bar and nearly into the net before Scranton goalie
Jackie Colley (North Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) retrieved the
rebound before it crossed the goal line.
Scranton, which has won six of the last seven Freedom Conference titles, outshot King's 12-3 and both teams attempted two corner kicks
each.
Uhl made eight saves for King's while Colley made three stops for the
Lady Royals.
King's will return to action Saturday when the Lady Monarchs travel to
Dallas to face College Misericordia at 11:00 a.m.
