KING'S WOMEN'S SOCCER POSTS 7-0 WIN OVER MARYWOOD
WILKES-BARRE -- Kaitlin Wilcox scored three goals and added an assist
while Catherine Scerra added two goals and two assists to lead the
King's College women's soccer team to a 7-0 victory over visiting
Marywood University Tuesday at Betzler Fields.
With the win, King's improved to 6-6 on the year while the Pacers
slipped to 4-6. The Lady Monarchs' six wins stands as the most for a
King's women's soccer team since the 1997 squad won a program-record 12
games. The 1996 King's team won seven games.
King's built a 2-0 halftime led when freshman Lisa McMillan opened the
scoring with an unassisted goal at the 26:29 mark. King's scored its
second goal with just 1:51 left in the half when Scerra scored off a
perfect crossing pass from McMillan.
Just 3:07 into the second half, Scerra posted her first goal off an
assist from Wilcox to give the Lady Monarchs a 3-0 lead. Wilcox then
followed with her second goal just 1:34 later as King's lead grew to
4-0. Wilcox would added two more goals while Kerri Rall also struck net
to round out King's scoring. Scerra added two assists while McMillan
contributed her second assist of the day.
King's outshot Marywood 28-4 while holding a 4-0 advantage in corner
kicks. Lady Monarch goalie Christine Uhl made one save in registering
the shutout win while Marywood goalie Amy Hand made 11 stops.
King's will return to action Thursday when the Lady Monarchs travel to
Philadelphia to face Lincoln University at 3:30 p.m.
