WOMEN'S SOCCER OPENS WITH 5-2 WIN OVER KEYSTONE
WILKES-BARRE -- Freshmen Catherine Scerra and Lisa McMillan scored two
goals each as the King's College women's soccer team posted a
season-opening 5-2 victory over Keystone College Thursday at Betzler
Fields.
Scerra opened the scoring at 42:27 of the game off a crossing pass from
Cindy Smallwood. McMillan gave the Lady Monarchs a 2-0 lead at 27:37
when she scored on a direct kick. Scerra would tally her second goal at
the 16-:10 mark as King's took a 3-0 lead into the halftime break.
In the second stanza, McMillan again scored unassisted during a scramble
in front of the Keystone net to up the lead to 4-0. Keystone got on the
board at 27:80 on a goal from Erica Leffler. The Lady Monarchs would
counter just 2:25 later when Smallwood struck net to push the lead to
5-1. Keystone added the game's final goal when Megan Giannetto scored
with 5:18 remaining in the contest.
King's outshot Keystone 24-3 and held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The Lady Monarchs will be idle until September 8 when King's hosts Cedar
Crest College at 4:00 p.m.
