WILKES SCORES 6-0 WOMEN'S SOCCER WIN OVER RIVAL KING'S

Edwardsville -- Freshman Leanne Rivers scored three goals and sophomore Jennifer Marks handed out three assists to lead Wilkes University to a 6-0 women's soccer win over rival King's College in a Freedom Conference match on Saturday at Ralston Field.

The win improves the Lady Colonels to 6-10-1 overall and 4-1 in the conference, while King's slips to 3-13 overall and 0-4 in the conference.

Wilkes wasted little time getting on the board as Jillian Chiucchi netted what would prove to be the game winner as she scored off a Marks cross at the 3:49 mark.

The Lady Colonels continued their aggressive play, and scored again at the 22:14 mark when Holly Shiber drilled a shot past Lady Monarch's keeper Liz Ball. Marks and Jennifer Compton tallied assists on the play.

Wilkes scored their third goal just before the end of the half when Tina Mooney lofted a direct kick into the upper corner of the net to make it 3-0 at intermission.

In the second stanza, the Lady Colonels picked up just where they left off. Rivers first goal came at the 74:50 when she received a through ball from Marks and found the back of the net to put Wilkes on top 4-0.

Rivers then struck again when she cleaned up a loose ball and touched it into the goal at the 85:50 mark to extend the Wilkes lead to 5-0. The freshman completed her hat trick at the 88:34 mark when she again found herself in the right place at the right time, hammering home an unassisted ball.

The Lady Colonels held a 24-6 shots on goal advantage, while also enjoying a 9-1 edge in corners. Ball made 10 saves in goal for King's. Wilkes keeper Katie Green had three.
