KING'S WOMEN'S SOCCER WINS FIRST GAME OF YEAR WITH 8-1 VICTORY OVER
ALVERNIA
WILKES-BARRE -- Meghan DeRosa scored three goals and Christine
Collins added two goals and one assist as the King's College women's
soccer team won its first game of the season with an 8-1 victory over
visiting Alvernia College Thursday at Betzler Fields.
DeRosa scored just 4:09 into the contest, than added a second goal at
30:10 off a Collins assist. Jeannie Drier gave the Lady Monarchs a
3-0 lead at 22:26 before Collins scored her first goal 10 minutes later
off an assist from Sarah Brody. King's would take a 5-0 half-time
lead when Leisyl Reuter struck net with just 3:42 left in the opening
stanza.
DeRosa would secure a hat trick when she scored her third goal at the
20:22 mark of the second half. Collins added her second goal with
13:49 left before Katrina Gibson pushed across the Lady Monarchs final
goal at 12:36. Alvernia reached the scoreboard with 4:41 remaining
when Kathy Louritson scored off a Cheryl Gilmore assist.
Liz Ball made nine saves in goal as the Lady Monarchs improved to 1-7 on
the year.
King's will return to action Saturday when the Lady Monarchs host FDU-Florham
at 11:00 a.m. at Betzler Fields.
