WILKES-BARRE --  Meghan DeRosa scored three goals and Christine Collins added two goals and one assist as the King's College women's soccer team won its first game of the season with an 8-1 victory over visiting Alvernia College Thursday at Betzler Fields.

DeRosa scored just 4:09 into the contest, than added a second goal at 30:10 off a Collins assist.  Jeannie Drier gave the Lady Monarchs a 3-0 lead at 22:26 before Collins scored her first goal 10 minutes later off an assist from Sarah Brody.  King's would take a 5-0 half-time lead when Leisyl Reuter struck net with just 3:42 left in the opening stanza.

DeRosa would secure a hat trick when she scored her third goal at the 20:22 mark of the second half.  Collins added her second goal with 13:49 left before Katrina Gibson pushed across the Lady Monarchs final goal at 12:36.  Alvernia reached the scoreboard with 4:41 remaining when Kathy Louritson scored off a Cheryl Gilmore assist.

Liz Ball made nine saves in goal as the Lady Monarchs improved to 1-7 on the year.
