SCRANTON WOMEN'S SOCCER DOWNS KINGšS 9-1

WILKES-BARRE ­ Kate Banafe scored three goals to lead the University of Scranton women's soccer team to a 9-1 victory over King's College in an MAC Freedom Conference opener Wednesday at Betzler Fields.

Banafe and Alison DeVarso both scored two first half goals to give the Lady Royals (4-3,1-0) a 7-1 lead at the break. King's (0-6, 0-1) lone goal was scored by Jeannie Dreier at 5:03 after Scranton built a 7-0 lead.

Scranton added three more goals in the second half to close out the game.

Lady Royal goalie Kim McCormick mad two saves while King's goalies Liz Ball and Liz Ashworth combined for 14 saves.
