KING’S WOMEN’S SOCCER FALLS TO MARYWOOD, 3-2

WILKES-BARRE – Rebecca Grubb scored a pair of goals and added an assist to lead the Marywood women’s soccer team to a 3-2 victory over King’s College Saturday at Betzler Fields.

King’s took a 1-0 lead at 3:50 of the first half when Meghan DeRosa converted a penalty kick. Marywood tied the score at 34:14 when Grubb scored unassisted. The Pacers took a 2-1 lead at 28:45 when Amy Skrzykek struck net off a Grubb assist.

Marywood (5-2) tacked on what proved to be the game-winner with just 0:19 left in the first half when Grubb scored unassisted to give the Pacers a 3-1 half-time lead. King’s (0-5) would score the final goal with 25:24 when Katrina Gibson scored off a Katie McFarland assist but the Lady Monarchs were unable to find the net again.

Both teams had 17 shots on goal while the Pacers held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks. Liz Ball made 10 saves for King’s while Marywood keeper Brie Matthews had 11 stops. King’s will host Scranton Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. at Betzler Fields.
