KING'S WOMEN'S SOCCER WINS OPENER BY DOWNING HOST HOOD
COLLEGE 4-3 IN OT
FREDERICK, MD -- Becky
Chateauneuf made her collegiate debut a memorable one by registering
three goals, including the game-winner in overtime, as the King's
College women's soccer team opened the 2008 season with a 4-3 victory
over host Hood College in the opening round of the
Kim
Servedio Women’s Soccer Tournament.
With the game knotted at 3-3 after regulation, King's would push across
the game winner when Chateauneuf
scored off an assist from Allison Beck 8:56 into the extra session to
send the Lady Monarchs into the championship match.
Fellow freshman Megan Inama also scored for King's. In goal,
rookie Sara Ciarlo made 12 saves to pick up the victory.
King's would build a 3-1 lead but Hood would send the game into overtime
on a Jessicsa Devine goal with just 6:05 left in the contest, setting up Chateauneuf's
heroics.
King's will play for the tournament title Sunday at 1:00 p.m. against
Mississippi College, a 3-0 victor over McDaniel in the other first-round
contest
