Entering his first season as the new
head coach of the King's College women's soccer program is Maria Bustin
who was hired early in the summer of 2008.
Bustin is a native of the Wyoming Valley where she was a standout
soccer and field hockey player at Bishop O'Reilly High School. In
soccer, she was a three-time Wyoming Valley Conference all-star who also
gained all-state recognition.
During her junior year, she finished
first in the WVC with 52 points (20 goals, 12 assists) and earned
Pennsylvania All-State honors. Her senior year she was second in the WVC
with 44 points (17 goals,10 assists) while serving as team captain.
She graduated from Bishop O'Reilly as the fourth all-time leading scorer
in Bishop O'Reilly girl's soccer history.
Bustin was also active with a variety of youth teams and was a
three-year participant in the Keystone State Games where she won two
gold medals and one bronze medal.
She began her collegiate soccer career at King's where she was a a
two-year letter winner with the Lady Monarchs, playing in 31 games.
In the spring, Bustin served as an assistant coach at Wyoming Valley
West High School. She then elected to move on to Division II Bloomsburg
University to complete her eligibility and education. However, injuries
and illness kept her off the field for her junior year. She would
later return to the field as a member of the Bloomsburg Women's Soccer
Club Team. She was unable to play varsity or club soccer her senior year
due to student-teaching obligations.
Bustin graduated cum laude from
Bloomsburg with a dual degree in Elementary/Special Education. While at
Bloomsburg she was
a Dean's List student with an overall 3.93 GPA. Bustin was inducted into
Who's Who Among American College and University Students, while also
being inducted into the Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Society for
Education; and the Alpha Phi Omega National Community Service
Fraternity.
Upon graduating form
Bloomsburg, she served one year as a long-term substitute teacher in the
Lewisburg Area School District.
She is currently
employed as a learning support teacher at nearby Dallas Area High School
in Dallas, Pa.

Laurie Anthony, 1st year

Laurie Anthony was hired as
King's new head women's lacrosse coach in July of 2007. Coach
Anthony brings with her a successful background in lacrosse.
A 2006 graduate of Drew University, Anthony was a
four-year varsity player in both soccer and lacrosse. In lacrosse, she was named to the All-Middle Atlantic Conference team in 2005
and 2006 while earning IWLCA Regional All-American honors both seasons.
Additionally, she was selected to play in the 2006 IWLCA North-South
Senior All-Star Game. Anthony was twice named the Middle Atlantic
Conference "Player of the Week". As a sophomore, she helped Drew to a Middle
Atlantic Conference lacrosse championship in 2005 along with an Eastern
College Athletic Conference title in 2004.
Anthony earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Drew in 2006 with
degree in Political Science while adding a minor in Women's Studies.
She was a two-time member of the Dean's List and earned the Drew
Recognition Award all four years. She was also a member of the
Drew Student-Athlete Advisory Committee during the 2005-06 year. Coach Anthony has also
taught lacrosse and soccer at numerous camps and clinics since 2002.
Coach Anthony came to King's in 2007-08 after spending the previous year as the
head lacrosse coach, physical education teacher, and personal health
and safety education teacher at Haileybury College, a private school
in Hertford Heath, England. She
directed the lacrosse program, teaching the sport to girls ranging
from 11-to-18 years of age, coaching three teams in the process.
