SABO TIES SCHOOL RECORD WITH EIGHT GOALS AS KING'S
ROUTES MISERICORDIA
WILKES-BARRE -- Senior midfielder
Lindsay Sabo equaled a school-record with eight goals to power the King's College
women's lacrosse team to a 17-6 victory over College Misericordia in a
non-conference matchup Thursday at Betzler Fields.
With the win, King's improved to 5-9 on the year while the Cougars fell
to 7-7.
Misericordia got on the board first when Jamie Wargo struck net just
4:33 into the game. But Sabo score three goals and Reanna
Lachner added two more to give the Lady Monarchs a 5-1 lead with 14:07
left in the first half.
King's continued to dominate play and built a 11-1 lead when Melissa
gates scored her second goal of the half with 1:02 on the clock.
The Lady Monarchs would end the opening stanza in a flurry when Lachner
netted her third goal with 0:24 left and Sabo scored her sixth goal of
the first half with just 0:06 on the clock as the Lady Monarchs took a
13-1 lead into the break.
Sabo would add two more goals in the second half and tied King's single
game mark of eight goals set b Michelle McKeon in 2000 when she scored
off a Lachner assist with 16:03 left in the game.
Lachner finished with three goals and one assist while Gates tallied two
scores. Keri Niedt, Michelle O'Brien, and Danielle Alesso scored one
goal each for the Lady Monarchs while Eric Kovats and Sara Alesso
chipped in with one assist.
King's goalie Heather Kelly made six saves while Chrissy Keenan stopped
one shot.
The Lady Monarch defense did a spectacular job in shutting down
Misericordia's top two scorers Shannon Tinkham (57 points) and Amanda
Felte (51 points).
Felte led Misericordia with three goals while Tinkham was held to one
assist. Wargo netted two goals for the Cougars while Jessy Schwenk
added one score.
Misericordia goalie Heather Heun made 14 saves in the first half while
Allison Hoffer played the second half and stopped six shot.
King's will close out its season Saturday at 1:00 p.m. when the Lady
Monarchs host Moravian College at Betzler Fields.
