KING'S WOMEN'S LAXERS RALLY FOR 14-12 DOUBLE OVERTIME WIN OVER
FDU-FLORHAM
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's women's lacrosse team overcame an 8-2
deficit, tied the game on a goal with 0:02 left in regulation, then won
the game in the second overtime period as the lady Monarchs posted a
dramatic 14-12 triumph over visiting FDU-Florham Saturday at Betzler
Fields.
With the win, King's improved to 5-3 overall and 2-3 in the MAC while
FDU slipped to 7-3 and 1-3.
King's trailed 7-2 at the half and FDU extended the lead to 8-2 when
Jessica Spier scored just 0:51 into the second half. The lady Monarchs,
however, fought back with five straight goals and clawed to within 8-7
when Keri Niedt converted a pass from Lindsay Sabo with 22:17 remaining
in the contest.
After an FDU goal stretched the lead to 9-7 with 18:04 left, King's
countered with two goals by Grace King and another from Lindsay Sabo to
take a 10-9 lead with 14:53 left. FDU would recapture a 11-10 lead on
goals by Laura Gambardello and Caroline Garguilo with 3:34 remaining.
King would score for the Lady Monarchs to knot the score at 11-11 with
3:04 left, but the Devils answered to take a 12-11 lead on an Amanda
Wayne goal with just 1:22 remaining.
King's would send the game into overtime when Sabo scored a dramatic
goal with just two seconds left on the clock.
After a scoreless first overtime period, King's took a 13-12 led when
King's scored unassisted one minute into the second extra frame. The
lady Monarchs added an insurance goal when Eric Kovats struck net just
1:05 later as King's would walk away with a stirring triumph.
Sabo finished with five goals and three assists for the Lady Monarchs
while King added five goals and Niedt chipped in with a pair of scores.
Heather Kelly made 12 saves in goal for King's.
King's will next travel to play College Misericordia Monday at 4:00 p.m.
in Dallas.
