KING'S WOMEN'S LACROSSE DROPS 15-12 VERDICT TO
LYCOMING
WILKES-BARRE -- Sarah Wingerden and Kelly Mack
scored four goals each to lead visiting Lycoming College to a 15-12
Middle Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse victory over King's College
Tuesday at Betzler Fields.
With the win, Lycoming improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in conference
play. King's slipped to 0-2 and 0-2.
Lycoming opened a quick 2-0 lead after just 1:13 of play had elapsed,
but King's countered to tie the score at 2-2 on goals by Erica Kovats
and Lindsay Sabo. Lycoming responded with six unanswered goals and
build a 8-2 lead on a score by Erin Robinson with 8:47 left in the half.
King's would cut the lead to 8-3 at the break when Grace King scored
unassisted at 6:28.
In the second half, King's needed just 4:17 to close to within 8-6 when
King, Michelle O'Brien, and Sara Alleso each scored goals for the Lady
Monarchs.
But Lycoming again responded with another big six-goal run to stretch
the advantage to 14-6 on a Wingerden goal with 11:51 remaining.
King's would attempt to rally when King's scored three goals, combined
with a tally by Sabo to cap a 4-0 Lady Monarch run which cut the lead to
14-10 with 8:38 left.
Lycoming answered with a goal by Wingerden at the 5:06 mark but King's
answered when Keri Niedt struck net with 5:06 left to bring King's to
within 15-11. Lycoming would then maintain possession in a
successful attempt to run time off the clock and King's would push
across the final goal with just 0:31 remaining when Jenifer Marrosu
scored unassisted.
King led the lady Monarchs with five goals while Sabo added two goals
and two assists. Heather Kelly made nine first half saves for King's
while Chrissy Keenan played the second half and made two stops.
Megan Wallenhorst netted three goals to aid the Lycoming cause while
Heather Suit added two goals and two assists. Kristina Peacock
registered 12 saves for the Warriors.
