KING'S WOMEN'S LACROSSE DEFEATS WILKES 13-5, TIE SCHOOL RECORD FOR SINGLE-SEASON VICTORIES

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College women's lacrosse team equaled the school record for victories in a season as the Lady Monarchs posted a 13-5 victory over visiting Wilkes University Wednesday at Betzler Fields.

With the victory, King's improved to 5-3 overall and 3-3 in the Middle Atlantic Conference. Wilkes slipped to 0-9 overall and 0-7 in the MAC. The Lady Monarchs also tied the school record for wins in one season, equaling the marks set in 2000 and 2003.

King's jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half when Kristen Greene scored the first two goals of the game, the first coming off an assist from Pam Wright. Lindsay Sabo gave the Lady Monarchs a 3-0 lead with an unassisted goal at 19:57 of the first half.

Wilkes would respond with a pair of goals when Danielle McDonald scored off an assist from Lyndsay Asinelli, before Kathryn Currier scored unassisted with 17:34 on the clock. Kim Murray would put King's ahead 4-2 at 15:59, but Asinelli countered for the Lady Colonels with a goal just 2:39 later. Maria Currier then scored to bring the game to a 4-4 tie with 7:17 remaining in the opening half. The Lady Monarchs would answer, however when Sabo and Kelly Ilardi scored, followed by consecutive goals from Kim Murray as the 4-0 King's spurt enabled the Lady Monarchs to forge a 8-4 halftime lead.

King's would control the temp in the second half and kept the Lady Colonels off the scoreboard. Greene and Sabo would both tally their third goals of the game while Murray added her second and third goals of the contest as the Lady Monarchs outscored Wilkes 5-0 over the final 30 minutes.

King's goalie Mary Beth Clark made 14 while Lady Colonel keeper Cassie Malone stopped eight shots.

King's will be idle until Tuesday when the Lady Monarchs travel to Madison, NJ to face traditional MAC power Drew University.
