KING’S NOTCHES 12-9 WOMEN’S LACROSSE WIN OVER WILKES
EDWARDSVILLE -- Kristen Greene scored a career-high
seven goals and added one assist
to
lead King’s College to a 12-9 Middle Atlantic Conference women’s
lacrosse victory over Wilkes University
on Tuesday afternoon at Ralston Field. The win
improves the Lady Monarchs to 5-8 overall and 3-6 in the MAC. Wilkes
slips to 1-9 overall and 1-8 in
conference play.
Wilkes took a 1-0 lead just 2:55 into the contest on
a goal by Candice
Adams. The
Lady Monarchs then tied the count at 1-1 when Beth Ampula scored unassisted
at the 4:51 mark.
The Lady Colonels would regain the lead at the 9:07
point when Lyndsay
Asinelli
scored off an assist from Sara Ciotoli. King’s then rattle off five
consecutive goals to forge in front 6-2. Greene started the spurt with
an unassisted goal. Patrice Cote then scored
two straight goals and assisted on a
goal by Greene to make it 5-2. Greene finished off the run with
an unassisted goal at the 18:51 mark.
Asinelli would get Wilkes to within 6-3 when she
scored her second goal
of the
contest unassisted at 20:36. Alicia Conner added another unassisted
goal at the 24:53 mark to get the Lady
Colonels within 6-4. Greene would close
out the first half scoring with a goal as time expired in the first
half to give King’s a 7-4 lead at
intermission.
King’s scored the first two goals of the second
half to take a 9-4
advantage.
Christina Klenk scored off a Greene assist, and Greene scored off
an assist from Karen Harp.
Kyla Campbell scored an unassisted goal for Wilkes
to close the gap to
9-5. But,
Cote answered with an unassisted goal for King’s to push the lead
back to five goals, 10-5. Conner notched her
second goal of the contest for Wilkes
at the 49:51 mark off an assist from Danielle McDonald to make it 10-6.
The Lady Monarchs answered back when Greene scored off an assist from
Cote at the 52 minute mark to make it
11-6.
Maria Currier scored unassisted and Kathryn Currier
scored off an
assist from
McDonald to get Wilkes within three goals, 11-8, with under five minutes
remaining. Greene scored off an assist from Cote to extend the King’s
lead to 12-8. Ciotoli then scored the final goal of the contest for the
Lady Colonels at the 58:51 mark.
Greene led the King’s offensive attack with her
seven goals on ten
shots. Cote
contributed to the Lady Monarchs attack by scoring three goals and
handing out three assists.
Conner and Asinelli each had two goals to lead
Wilkes. Ciotoli added a goal and an assist, while McDonald had two
assists. Campbell, Maria Currier, Kathryn Currier and Adams each had one
goal for the Lady Colonels.
Mary Beth Clark stopped 10 shots in net to secure the win for King’s.
Cassie Malone had one save and Carissa Lyons came up
with 11 saves in goal
for Wilkes.
