WINS THIRD STRAIGHT VASSAR TOURNAMENT
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY –-
Senior forward Debbie Wychock scored four goals for the second straight
day and added assist while sophomore Danielle Terracciano added two
goals and an assist to power the King's College field hockey team to a
6-3 victory over host Vassar College in the championship game of the
Betty Richey Invitational Tournament concluding Sunday in Poughkeepsie,
NY
It marked the third straight year the Lady Monarchs (6-0) won the title at
Vassar's annual event.
The Brewers (1-2) jumped out
to an initial 1-0 led just 3:41 minutes into the contest when junior
Jordan Friedmann scored the first of her two goals following a scrum in
front of the King's crease. King's (6-0) scored the next three straight
goals with the first coming from Wychock at 9:39 and the next two off
the stick of Terracciano at 30:41 and 34:10, for a 3-1 Lady Monarch
halftime lead.
Just 1:53 into the second
half, Wychock, who earned tournament most valuable player honors,
tallied King's fourth goal off a rebound. Vassar was able to trim the
lead to 4-2 with 28 minutes to play when Friedmann scored her second
goal during a scramble in the crease.
Wychock scored her third goal
at 55:06 off a Terracciano assist, giving Kings a 5-2 comfort margin.
The Brewers responded when Jessie Albert notched her first goal of the
season off an assist from fellow senior Emily Fare, bringing Vassar to
within 5-3 at the 66:00 mark. Wychock, however, put the game away for
King's with an insurance goal just 3:02 later to seal a 6-3 victory for
the Lady Monarchs.
King's out shot Vassar 15-13
and held a 11-3 advantage on penalty corners, converting three for
goals. Kings goalie Erin McGinley made three stops to pick up the win
while Vassar goalie Taylor Herman had five saves.
Wychock was named the top player in the tournament after totaling 17
points on eight goals and one assist in the two-day event.

Eleven players earned All-Tournament honors. Kings had five
players selected, including sophomores Shelby Trenge and Candice Rush,
seniors Jackie Snover, Christina Glenn and Debbie Wychock.
Vassar’s selections included sophomore Jessica lance, junior Catherine
Fuller and Fare. MIT had two players picked, including, freshman
Anna Teruya and senior Ekavali Mishra. Elms placed junior Danielle Boyer
and Christine Fleury on the team.
